Preparations are now well underway for the 2012 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Fermoy. The committee have decided on the same route as last year and to finish the Parade in Pearse Square as this proved a very popular decision last year.

New to this year's parade will be the Choral Society. This will prove to be a very popular entrant and the Parade Committee are expecting huge interest in what they will do.

Diarmuid Gowan commented "The Choral have been so influential down through the years and to think that this society comes up with such high professional standards year after year that they are a huge credit to Fermoy, we are really looking forward to their entry"

Chairman John Murphy, added "It is so appropriate that the Choral have decided to march this year with Sr. Nuala being the Grand Marshal. I have a hunch that the hostelries around Fermoy will be alive with the Sound of Music"

Master of Ceremonies, Niall Cremin added "Each year the number of musical groups is growing, each year something new is added, I think this year's Parade will be something special. I'm really looking forward to it and I think those attending are in for a special treat"

Noel Barnes, secretary of Fermoy Business Action Group added that numbers are looking very good for the Farmers Market. They will have it up and running in New Market Street, close to Pearse Square to help feed the masses. Anyone wishing to have a stall can contact Noel at 086-3849698

Committee Secretary, Donal O'Lochlainn, said that last year the Parade Website, www.fermoypatricksday.com was a great success and greatly aided the organization of the Parade. "Knowing who is marching is a great help to the organizers and enabled us to group the entrants in an orderly fashion. Also, many groups are coming on board to help with the stewarding, Fermoy Rotary, Fermoy Lions, Fermoy Rugby and of course Fermoy Gardai. Donal concluded that all should use the website to register for the parade. This year the website is interactive and you can see at a glance who will be marching as soon as they register. Anyone with difficulties or wishing to contact the committee can contact Donal at 086-8142744 or tops@iol.ie.
